Ema Keithel :
The Ima Market (Meitei: Ima Keithel; literally, Mothers' Market), also known as the Nupi Keithel (English: Women's Market) or the Khwairamband Keithel (English: Khwairamband Marke), is a women-only market in the middle of Imphal in the Indian state of Manipur. It is the only market in the world run entirely by women. Inside the market, male shopkeepers and vendors are not allowed to sell anything The Government of Manipur has announced that the male shopkeepers and vendors will be punished if their shops and vendors are found inside the market. It is a commercial center and a popular tourist attraction in the state of Manipur. It was established in the 16th century and hosts around 5,000–6,000 women vendors who sell a variety of products. Products such as vegetables, fruits, textiles, toys, fish, spices and utensils are available in the market. It is the largest all–women market in Asia.
In the morning, after having breakfast, leave for a full day sightseeing tour to Imphal. A visit to Kangla Fort which is one of the best attractions in Imphal will help in exploring and learning about the historically rich heritage of Manipur. Head to Manipur State Museum where you can explore a wide collection of Manipuri culture, wildlife and lifestyle. A walk to Manipur Zoological Garden will bring you close to wild and nature at the same time. Kangla Fort:
Also known as the Palace of Kangla, this place situated on the banks of the Imphal river, served as the royal palace of King Pakhangba. After 2003 this fort has been open for public viewing. It has historical as well as archaeological significance which makes it a great tourist attraction.
Manipur State Museum :
Set up in 1969, this museum caters to various categories of artifacts such as Ethnology, Archaeology, Natural History and Painting. It showcases articles owned by the Manipuri rulers.
Manipur Zoological Garden:
Specialised in the preservation and breeding of rare species, this place with its lush greenery and calm atmosphere is surrounded by hills and was established in 1976.
Khonghampat Orchidarium:
The Khonghampat Orchidarium (Meitei: Khonghampat Urei Leikol) is a botanical garden in Imphal, Manipur, India. It is dedicated to the collection, cultivation, preservation and display of a wide range of 500 varieties of orchids found in Manipur. It houses some of the rarest orchids in the world. The peak blooming season of the orchid flowers is from April to July. The finest visiting season is March to April. This Orchidarium is the orchid centre of the Forest Department of Manipur.
In the morning, after having breakfast, head to Bishnupur which is approx 29 kms away from Imphal. On arrival, you will be taken to the famous Vishnu Temple which was built in the year 1467 and is one of the oldest known brick temples in Manipur. Visiting the temple you will come across the magnificent architecture of the temple which is a fusion of the architectural styles of both Hindus and Chinese. Once done with exploring the Vishnu Temple along with other temples, head back to Imphal for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Bishnupur :
Bishnupur is a town in Bishnupur district in the state of Manipur, India. It derived its name from an ancient Vishnu temple located in the town which was established in 15th Century.
Vishnu Temple at Bishnupur is a 15th-century temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. King Kyamba of Manipur along with Chaopha Khe Khomba, the king of Pong, conquered Kyang, a Shan kingdom in the Kabaw Valley of present Myanmar. Jubilant at the victory, an idol of Lord Vishnu was given by the Pong king to King Kyamba. King Kyamba started worshipping the idol at Lumlangdong which then came to be known as Bishnupur i.e. abode of Vishnu. Subsequently, he built a Vishnu Temple of brick at Bishnupur which has now become a protected historical monument under the Ministry of H.R.D (Archeology), Government of India.
In the morning, after having breakfast head to the famous Loktak Lake which is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India. On arrival, you will witness the beautiful lake which is also popular as the only Floating Lake in the World. Tourist can get indulged in a boat ride which helps in creating an unforgettable experience. Also, to get a wildlife experience, head to the Keibul Lamjao National Park which is located near the lake. Visiting the park you will get the opportunity to witness the endangered Sangai which is the state animal of Manipur, Eastern Site Stork, Hooded Crane, the Black Eagle, Bamboo Partridge, Shaheen Falcon and Green Peafowl and more. After completing the sightseeing tour, head back to the hotel at Imphal for dinner and overnight stay.
Loktak Lake:
For any visitor, the principal attraction of the state is the Loktak Lake in Bishnupur District which is 48kms from Imphal City and it is the largest fresh water lake in the North–East India. It is a beautiful stretch of water resembling a miniature inland sea. A day spent at Loktak Lake is a lifetime of memory. Visitors can catch a bird’s eye view of the lake from Sendra. Fishermen living in floating islands called Phumdis in floating huts known as Phumsangs are unique sights of this lake. The Sendra Tourist Home with an attached Cafeteria is a sought after tourist spot. Boating and other water sports are organised here at Takmu Water Sports Complex.
Keibul Lamjao National Park:
Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating national park in the world, is located in the north-east Indian state of Manipur. It lies in the district of Bishnupur and is a vital part of Loktak Lake. The fact that it is a floating island is a unique feature that attracts nature enthusiasts and researchers from all over the world. This aspect of nature is magical and can only be seen only here, in Imphal. As one explores the National Park, they will come across many species including an endangered species of Deer, called the Brow Antlered Deer, Eld's deer or the dancing deer. This deer is locally called Sangai. So make sure you carry your binoculars and a good camera to capture some fabulous pictures.
