Arrival at Imphal followed by meeting our executive at the airport. Check in at the hotel and freshen up. Lunch would be served in the hotel. Leave for sightseeing tour of Shree Shree Govindajee Temple. The temple is a historic centre for Vaishnava culture. The main deity of the temples are Radha Govinda, Krishna and Balram on one side with Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra on another side. After Shree Shree Govindajee Temple, the next stop is Khwairamband Bazaar which is a major tourist attraction in Imphal. The unique thing about this market is that it completely run and organised by women of Imphal. You can buy traditional handicrafts like handwoven Shawls, skirts, handmade vessels to food items like Fish, Orange and Orange flavoured honey. The final stop for the day would be Khonghampat Orchidarium. Here you can see more than 100 rare varieties of Orchids. The best time to witness the Orchid field is April and May Return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Shree Govindajee Temple:
Shree Shree Govindajee Temple is a historic centre of the Vaishnavites in Manipur. It has a golden twin domed temple which attracts large number of devotees who participate in various devotional activities. Tourists are welcomed to come and join in the daily festivities at the historic Govindajee temple. The Temple was a part of the project for Development of Spiritual Circuit in Manipur, which covered the Shri Shri Govindajee Temple, Shri Bijoy Govindajee Temple, Shri Gopinath Temple, Shri Bungshibodon Temple and the Kaina Temple under Swadesh Darshan Scheme, 2016-2017.
Khwairamband Bazaar:
Famous for the colourful handmade items of Manipur, Khwairamband Bazaar of the state is located in the capital city of Imphal. This bazaar is ruled by Manipuri women. There are around 3000 women who run the shops of the market. These women are called Imas, meaning mothers. The bazaar is also known as Nupi Keithel and Ima Bazaar deriving its name from the women who run it. The market area is spread on both sides of the Khwairamband Road. One side of the market is dedicated to the wonderful handloom items which are very popular among tourists. The other side of the market is full of vegetables, fruits and fishes. Other items found in this market are cosmetics, household utensils and beautiful jewellery. Various types of handicrafts such as shawls, bedsheets and Manipuri dresses can be bought from this market. Plaited Osiers are one of the famous handicrafts of Manipur.
Khonghampat Orchidarium:
The Khonghampat Orchidarium is a botanical garden in Imphal, Manipur, India. It is dedicated to the collection, cultivation, preservation and display of a wide range of 500 varieties of orchids found in Manipur It houses some of the rarest orchids in the world. The peak blooming season of the orchid flowers is from April to July. The finest visiting season is March to April. This Orchidarium is the orchid centre of the Forest Department of Manipur.
Breakfast would be served at the hotel after which the caravan would lead to Imphal excursion. Toda’s day is reserved for Imphal sightseeing tour. The first destination on the list is Loktak Lake and Sendra Island. Located 48 km from the main city, Loktak lake resembles a miniature inland sea. Sendra Island is located in the lake from where you can get an aerial view of the water body which is an active fishing site and home to the fisherman colony. The next stop is Keibul Lamjao National Park which is 53 km from Imphal which is located next to Loktak Lake. The National Park is home to the few surviving endangered marsh-dwelling brow-antlered deer of Manipur called "Sangai. It also happens to be the world’s only floating National Park which is majorly composed of large masses of floating weed, which can support a lot of weight.Return back to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Loktak Lake:
Loktak Lake (Meitei: Loktak Paat) is the largest freshwater lake in India, located in the central plains of the state of Manipur. It is famous for the phumdis (or floating islands) that float on it, of which the largest forms the Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating national park in the world. It is also known as the "world's only floating lake" and is a tourist attraction in Northeast India.
Sendra Island:
Sendra is the most elevated of a string of islands in Loktak Lake linked to Moirang village by road causeways. Sendra has wonderful panoramas that you can combine with good food and coffee at Sangai Café.
Keibul Lamjao National Park:
The park is located in the south western part of the Loktak lake. This is the last natural habitat of the brow-antlered deer(Sangai) the dancing deer of Manipur. Keibul Lamjao National Park is the only floating park in the world. A glimpse of the deer in this unique wetland ecosystem is a must for any wildlife enthusiast. Other wildlife to be seen include: Hog Deer, Otter, a host of water fowls and migratory birds, the latter usually sighted during November to March. The Forest Department of Manipur maintains watch towers and two rest houses within the park. Shooting game is prohibited there.
