However, in 1985 Mawsynram surpasses the title of Cherrapunjee as the wettest place on Earth by recording an annual rainfall of 11,872 mm (above 39 feet).

The community takes great pride in maintaining cleanliness, and every resident actively participates in keeping the village spotless. Umiam Lake:
Umiam Lake, a mesmerizing man-made reservoir, is located at a distance of 15 kilometres north of Shillong which is the capital of the north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya. The lake was formed after a dam was constructed to generate hydroelectric power. The scenic Umiam Lake is encircled by lush green East Khasi hills that form one of the best panoramic sights for nature-lovers in the country.
The sunrise at the lake is a treat to watch and shouldn't be missed. Elephant falls:
Named after an Elephant like stone at its foot, the Elephant Falls are amongst the most popular falls in the North-East, situated next to Shillong. It is a tourists' paradise with three layers of the falls accessible to the layman from different vantage points. The Britishers named this fall so owing to the presence of an elephant-shaped rock on one side of the fall. However, the stone disintegrated and was washed away due to an earthquake in 1897. Elephant Waterfalls is a superb place for spending some time in the midst of nature while capturing the incredible moments for your keepsake.
The breathtaking Elephant falls were referred to as 'Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew' by the local Khasi people, which means 'The Three Step Waterfalls', as these falls consist of three mesmerising falls in succession. The first of the three waterfalls are tucked between the dense trees and are very broad. The second waterfall reduces to thin strands of water and is almost negligible in winters due to the receding water levels. The third and the most visible waterfall is the tallest with clear water flowing like a sheet of milk on the dark rocks in the backdrop. Out of the three, the third waterfall tends to strike the visitors as the most impressive.
Mawsmai Falls:
The Nohsngithiang Falls, located at a distance of about 4km from Cherrapunjee, is one of the tallest waterfalls in India and a major tourist spot in Cherrapunjee. Since it is situated in the Mawsmai village of the East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya, it is also known as Mawsmai Falls. The Nohsngithiang Falls falls from a height of about 1033 feet, segmented into seven different sections, giving it the epithet of Seven Sister Waterfalls. The scintillating waterfall is seasonal and plunges over the limestone covered hills only during the rainy season.
The Nohsngithiang Falls or the Seven Sister Falls is symbolic of the seven sister states of the North East of India namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya. The mesmerising waterfall cannot be entered into but creates a spectacular viewpoint to view the surrounding beauty of Mawsmai.

Living Root Bridge:
Hidden deep in the lush, green forests of the wettest place in India: Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya; one can find the magnificent Jingkieng Nongriat Double Decker Living Root Bridge; more commonly known as the Umshiang Double Decker Living Root Bridge or simply just the Double Decker Root Bridge. This area is famous for root bridges made of Indian Rubber Tree, but the Double Decker Bridge is the most famous of all due to its large size. It is 3 kilometers long and placed at a height of 2400 feet! A unique attraction and quite an innovative mix of nature and engineering. The Umshiang River flows beneath the bridge.
Drive to Nameri National Park, a biodiverse hotspot, Covering a distance of 290 kilometers, the drive will treat you to breathtaking views along the way. Nameri national park:
Nameri national park is famous for its elephants and other animals including tigers, leopards, gaurs, wild pigs, sambars, etc. and also for being a bird watchers paradise. Safaris are available and are the most popular way to create a trip full of excitement, into the national park.

The river in Nameri is full of a variety of fish. The Forest Department here conducts fishing related activities. Golden Masheer Fish is the famous fish of this region and measures 3-9 feet. It is also known as "Tiger of the Himalayan Rivers".

Sangti Valley:

Access to Sangti Valley is primarily through road transportation, with the village connected via the Bomdilla-Tawang highway. Begin your day by visiting the famous Tawang Monastery, known as the Garden Namgyal Lhatse. This monastery, located at an elevation of over 10,000 feet, was built in the 17th century and holds great significance for Tibetan Buddhism. Explore its intricate architecture, vibrant murals, and serene surroundings. Take a moment to visit the Uni Gompa, a women's monastery, and witness the peaceful spiritual practices carried out by the nuns. Continue your exploration with a visit to Urgelling, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Tawang Monastery:
Located amidst the picturesque surroundings, the Tawang Monastery also known as the Golden Namgyal Lhatse is one of the gems in Arunachal Pradesh. Perched at the height of 3,000 metres above sea level, it has been recognised as the second largest monastery in the world, the first one being Lhasa. The monastery is believed to be 400 years old and has control over 17 gompas in the region. Built as a large mansion, it is an abode for over 300 monks. Lying amidst the Himalayan ranges, it offers a breathtaking view of the Tawang-Chu valley. One of the most prominent attractions in the monastery houses is the massive statue of Lord Buddha which is 8 meters in height.
The three-storeyed building was founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso to complete the wish of Nagwang Lobsang Gyatso, the 5th Dalai Lama in 1860-61. It belonged to the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism and had a religious association with Drepung Monastery of Lhasa, which continued during the period of British rule. The main temple, Dukhang, boasts of magnificent interiors with beautiful artwork while the inner walls contain sketches and paintings of Bodhisattvas.
Today, bid farewell to Tawang and drive on a scenic journey to Bomdila, a picturesque town known for its rich cultural heritage. Bomdila is home to various tribes such as Monpa, Sherdukpen, Aka (Hruso), Miji, and Bogun. Enroute, make a stop at Jang Fall to witness the beauty of the cascading waterfall. Afterward, continue your drive and upon arrival in Bomdila, check-in to your hotel. Take a walk around the town and spend a relaxing evening. Overnight stay in Bomdila.
Post breakfast drive to renowned Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Tiger Reserve. The park covers an expansive area of 430 square kilometers and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Kaziranga National Park:
Home to the largest population of the one-horned rhino on earth, Kaziranga National Park is one of India’s national treasures in terms of flora and fauna. Located in the state of Assam in North-Eastern India, its total area is shared by the districts of Nagaon, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong placing it roughly at the centre of the state. Approximately around five hours by road from Guwahati, Kaziranga National Park stands tall as the epitome of successful wildlife conservation in India. In 1985, it was awarded the status of a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Lying on the floodplains of the mighty river Brahmaputra, rich vegetation covers almost the entirety of Kaziranga National Park. Receiving massive amounts of rainfall each year, at times even crossing dangerous levels, this national park is characterised by tall elephant grass, marshlands and tall tropical broadleaf forests. Here, a wide variety of fauna thrives including the one-horned rhino, Asiatic elephants, wild water buffalo, leopards and Royal Bengal Tigers.
Begin your day with jeep ride in the central range of Kaziranga. This experience allows you to get up close to the wildlife and witness the majestic rhinos in their natural habitat. After the ride, return to your resort for a refreshing lunch. In the afternoon, go on a thrilling jeep safari in the western range of the park. This safari provides an opportunity to spot various species, including rhinos, water buffaloes, deers, Wild boar, Elephant and numerous bird species.
