Vidhana Soudha:
Described by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as 'a temple dedicated to the nation', Vidhana Soudha houses the State Legislature and the Secretariat of Karnataka and is one of the most popular attractions in the lively and colourful city of Bengaluru. It also proudly boasts the title of being the largest state legislative building in the country. With four entrances in all four directions and four floors above the ground level and one below it, we surely don't doubt the title. Popularly known as the 'Taj Mahal of South India', it is counted as one of the most magnificent buildings in the city and is sure to impress the onlooker with its sophisticated poise and glorified grandiose. The entire monument is illuminated on Sundays and public holidays and is a sight for sore eyes.
Then Prime Minister Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru along with then Chief Minister K.C. Reddy laid down the first brick of this establishment on 13 July 1951 and initiated the construction of a monument that symbolizes the legislative sovereignty of the people of the country. Its construction took a good five years and it was finally inaugurated in 1956 to become the largest legislative building in India. The Vidhana Soudha stands 150 feet tall and boasts of an elegant and truly exquisite Neo-Dravidian style of architecture.
Bangalore Palace:
An epitome of great architecture and beauty, The Majestic Bangalore Palace preserves in it the spice of old regal opulence. Currently the central attraction in Bangalore, the palace was built in the year 1878. Chamarajendra Wadiyar's British Guardians bought the original property in 1873 from the principal of Bangalore Central High School, Rev, J Garret, from his funds. The palace is extraordinarily vast and spread across 45,000 square feet. A mixture of Tudor and Scottish Gothic architecture have resulted into the grand palace that we see today. The wooden structure of the palace along with the beautiful carvings both inside and outside showcases the royal culture in different ways.
Apart from being a major tourist destination, the palace is a host to different cultural events, rock shows, and marriages. As per beliefs, King Chamarajendra Wadiyar drew his inspiration for building the palace from the Windsor Castle of London. The granite seats decorated with fluorescent blue ceramic tiles on the ground floor, a fairy tale Ballroom, the famous painter Raja Ravi Varma's paintings, vine-covered walls, and the Durbar Hall on the first floor come together to form the prepossessing Bangalore Palace.

The well-synchronised fountain show with music, boating and well-manicured grass with flowerbeds are some of the top experiences of Brindavan Garden.
Constructed in 1932 by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail, Brindavan Garden is visited by millions of tourists every year. Divided into two parts, north and south, boating facility offered by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation which connects the two parts along with a walkway bridge.
KrishnaRajaSagara Dam:
Located in Mandya in Karnataka, KrishnaRajaSagara Dam, also known as KRS Dam, is a huge gravity dam situated near the confluence of the rivers - Cauvery, Hemavathi and Lakshaman Tirtha. Named after Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV of Mysore, the dam was initially built to provide water for Mandya and Mysore. But later, it eventually became a source of water supply for the city of Bangalore that was rapidly growing. Today it is a major tourist attraction and amongst the most scenic spots in the region.
Flanked by flashy fountains, beautiful gardens and stunning rivers, the site looks so scintillating that it has been the sets for several movies in the past. Besides, it is considered an ideal weekend getaway from the chaos and din of the city to spend some peaceful time amidst surreal natural beauty. Also known as the first irrigation dam of India, KRS Dam also ensures power supply to Shivanasamudra hydroelectric power station.
Mysore Palace:
An incredibly breathtaking example of Indo - Saracenic style of architecture, the Mysore Palace is a magnificent edifice located in Mysore in the state of Karnataka. Also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, it is the former palace of the royal family of Mysore and is still their official residence. Mysore Palace was built in the year 1912 for the 24th Ruler of the Wodeyar Dynasty and is counted amongst one of the biggest palaces in the country.
The construction of the Mysore Palace was orchestrated by the Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV referred as "Rajarishi" (saintly king) by Mahatma Gandhi. It was then further expanded by his son and the last Maharaja of Mysore, Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar. The facade of the palace is a harmonious blend of Hindu, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic styles which imparts it a regal quality. With the Chamundi Hills towards its eastern side, the spectacle of the Mysore Palace is an enchanting sight to behold. Needless to say, it is the second most visited historical monument visited by both local and foreign tourists after the Taj Mahal. Presently located inside the Old Fort, Mysore Palace is renowned for its light & sound show and vibrant Dussehra celebrations.

Dodabetta is strategically located between the Western and Eastern Ghats, thus it is an ideal vantage point for the entire Nilgiris. The peak, or the Dodabetta viewpoint, can be accessed via a vehicle as well as on foot, this feature makes it a perfect destination to visit whether you are seeking leisure or adventure.
The Government Museum:
The museum was established to keep the fundamental values of the Nilgiri District and the people alive and educated everyone about them. It forms an important source of knowledge from this part of Tamil Nadu. It is a good attraction for family outings too. Children and grown-ups, everyone, can learn about the culture and understand its importance and relevance.
The Government Museum displays information and artefacts belonging to 18 tribes in Ooty. The focus, however, is on the Toda Tribe which is considered to have had a remarkable impact on the region. At present, there are only 1100 people surviving from the tribe and, therefore, preserving their ancestral heritage has become more important. It is believed that the first Toda man was created along with a Buffalo by Goddess Teikirshi and her brother. The first Toda woman later emerged from the right rib of the first Toda man. Factually, the tribe occurred in the late 1700s when the Nilgiris were annexed by the East India Company. They have, since their existence, been an integral part of Ooty.
We will check out of the hotel in Ooty after breakfast and drive to Salem, which will take about 5 hours. We'll stop along the road to pay a visit to the Tharamangalam Kailasanathar Temple Tank. Some parts of the temple go back to the 10th century period. The present structure is claimed to belong to the 17th century Gatti Mudali rule. An amazing fact about the construction of this temple is that the sculptures here were based on monolithic stones. It is advised to engage an official temple guide if you want to learn more about the architecture. Just in front of the entrance to the inner sanctum, we can visualize on the ceiling the inverted open lotus with pairs of elegant chains carved out of stone. That lotus can be rotated with a stick. The stone carving of the ‘Yali’ (a lion face with a stone ball in the mouth) is the most attractive sculpture in the temple.
The ambulatory is full of interesting sculptures depicting the Hindu myths. The main five storey 90 feet high entrance tower is designed as a chariot on wheels, drawn by elephants and horses. The huge entrance doors of this West facing temple are made of Vengai wood (Pterocarpus Marsupium). They are studded with non-rusting iron knobs in different patterns.

After that, freshen up and depart for St. George Fort, India's first English fortress, which was erected in 1644 in the coastal city of Madras, which is now known as Chennai. Following that, we'll travel to Guindy National Park. It is India's eighth smallest national park and one of the city's very few national parks. Later in the evening, we'll spend some quality time at Marina Beach. Stay in a hotel in Chennai for the night.
Fort St. George:
The origin of the great white structure of Fort St. George is inextricable from the history of the city of Chennai itself. Popularly called the 'White Town', the sole purpose of establishing the massive fort compound was to establish a British stronghold in the Coromandel Coast and the rest of south India. With Fort St. George as a British headquarter, it was easier to develop the many small towns and villages in Tamil Nadu. The now bustling city of Chennai grew up around this fort during this time, under the British-conferred name Madras.
The magnificent fort happens to be the first in many aspects in the entire era or British rule in India. The fort itself is the first British garrison settlement in India. It also houses the first British official residential complex, the Clive House which was the home of the Commander-in-chief and the orchestrator of British India, Lord Robert Clive. St Mary's Church inside the fortress is also the oldest Anglican Church, not only in India but among all the landmasses east of Suez.
Guindy National Park:
One of the must-visit attractions in Chennai is Guindy National Park. Ranked as the eighth smallest National Park in India, Guindy National Park is spread over 2.70 km square in the protected area of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. These protected areas are maintained by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. You must also know that this the only park which is located inside a city. Before the park came into existence, this space was considered as an extended part of the Guindy Lodge which is presently referred to as the Raj Bhavan, the Governor of Tamil Nadu’s official home.
We'll have breakfast this morning and then go shopping in some of Chennai's most famous markets. We'll leave in the afternoon via road for Mahabalipuram, which is about a 2-hour journey. When you arrive, check into the hotel you've already reserved and get ready to go on a local sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram. In our half-day tour, we'll see the key tourist attractions in Mahabalipuram. Thirukadalmallai, also known as Sthalasayana Perumal, is a temple dedicated to Vishnu that was built in the Dravidian style of architecture. After that, we'll go to Shore Temple. Because it overlooks the Bay of Bengal, the shrine was given that name. We'll also go to Mahabalipuram's Pancha Pandava Rathas, a monument complex that is a magnificent example of monolithic Indian rock-cut architecture. The entire region is a World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Following that, we'll see Arjuna's Penance, a colossal open-air bas-relief monolith dating from the 7th century. Finally, we'll go to Krishna's Butterball, a strange tourist site in Mahabalipuram known for its stone carvings. Later, we'll return to the motel for a restful night's sleep.
Shore Temple:
This temple is one of the most regal examples of Indian heritage and is a loved and revered place in India. Located on the shores of Bay of Bengal, the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram was built in the 7th century and today is recognised as one of the UNESCO world heritage sites of India.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva and is divided into three shrines. The most significant of the three shrines is the one where Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are worshipped. In the Grabhagriha of the temple, you can find the Shivalingam which seems like embracing the temple. There are two shrines placed at the back of the temple faced opposite to each other. Of the, one is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and while the other highlights the grandeur of Ksatriyasimnesvara. The image of Lord Vishnu is shown as Seshanag who is considered as the symbol of realization as per the Hindu religion.
Pancha Ratha:
Pancha Rathas an architectural ode to Mahabharata's five Pandava brothers Yudhistir, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva, and their wife Draupadi. Thematically and structurally, each ratha is significantly different from the other ones, but all of them were carved out of a long stone or monolith. Spread over one to three storeys, their forms vary from square to apsidal. The walls of these ancient edifices are decorated with bas-reliefs and murals. A beautifully carved monolithic airavata (elephant) and nandi (bull) decorate the premises. Though originally meant to be places of worships, these were never consecrated and used actively for any sacred rites.
Krishna's Butterball:
Krishna's Butterball (also known as Vaan Irai Kal and Krishna's Gigantic Butterball) is a gigantic balancing rock, granite-boulder resting on a short incline in the historical coastal resort town of Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu state of India.
Being part of the Group of Monuments at Mamallapuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built during the seventh- and eighth-century CE as Hindu religious monuments by the Pallava dynasty, it is a popular tourist attraction locally. It is listed as a protected national monument by the Archeological Survey of India.
Today, after breakfast, we will depart for a local sightseeing trip of Mamallapuram, the Pallavas' old harbour. Pallavas built several magnificent monuments, including sculptural panels, caves, Monolithic Temples, and Rathas. A large bas relief in Krishna Mandapam is renowned for its accurate depiction.
